Self Organising Wisdom
It is you the client, according to Carl Rogers (the originator of person centred and experiential approches to counselling), who holds the key to all the wisdom needed for change to occur
What he means is that it is not just up to the efforts of an expert to give you the answers to your problem but that it is you and your motivation to change that makes the therapy work.
It is only you that knows what hurts or feels out of harmony and I can honestly say I have witnessed over and over that given sufficient supportive relational conditions people have vast resources of self understanding
This is what Rogers calls our 'self organising wisdom' - and certainly part of my role is to faciltate that process with you. It is this process that helps you know what direction to go in - what to speak about and what to address in the session and in your life outside the counselling room
